MTB 29'' inner tubes

29” MTB inner tubes, the standard that has no rivals

The 29” MTB inner tube is the most widely used format because it has no rivals in terms of rolling, grip, and obstacle clearance. When it comes to materials, butyl remains the star on the most affordable products. But at higher levels, latex and elastomers with unique properties come into play. These ultra-light 29'' inner tubes also excel in their resistance to impacts, punctures, or tears. If you are looking for a robust solution that is also cost-effective, our advice is to choose an inner tube with puncture sealant. It is true, the weight will increase significantly, but the risk of punctures will drop dramatically.

How do you choose the right model?

Presta or Schrader? Here is a good question to answer if you are about to buy an inner tube. These two names refer to the two types of valve for inner tubes. The choice depends on the type of rim fitted to the bike, which must match the inner tube valve. The Presta valve is more slender, while the Schrader valve is more robust. In both cases, length ranges from 40 to 50 mm. Another crucial factor when choosing is compatibility between the inner tube and the 29 tire in terms of width. For this reason, the packaging of new inner tubes always espresso clearly the range of sizes covered.

The right inner tube for every discipline

Cross-country, All Mountain, Enduro, Downhill: these are just some of the most adventurous faces of cycling. What differentiates the various disciplines is riding style and pedaling approach. These specific features have a major impact on tires and inner tubes. When climbs and descents alternate evenly, it is best to choose an inner tube with a maximum width of 2.1”. This is because on climbs a wider tire creates more friction and, therefore, greater effort. On descents, however, this variable becomes negligible. It is no coincidence that in Gravity disciplines much larger inner tubes are used in terms of width. 2.4, 2.6, and 2.8-inch inner tubes are some of the most commonly used sizes, up to 3” mid-fat tires which require XL inner tubes, such as the Schwalbe Aerothan MTB 29+.
