Warming creams, balms and oils for cycling-specific muscles

Warming creams, ointments and oils: the extra support you need

Warming creams, ointments and oils, specifically designed for cycling, help the rider prepare the muscles for exertion, whether for a race or a training session. They are generally complemented by specific hair removal products and other products such as chamois creams, recovery creams and massage products. Chamois creams (also called anti-chafing creams) are designed to reduce friction between the saddle and intimate areas, warming creams are intended to improve muscle performance, recovery creams are made to improve post-exercise recovery, and massage creams help facilitate mechanical movements and the benefits derived from a massage after physical activity. That is why it is best to rely on quality products that give us all the support we need.

Many product types to choose from

Generally, these products are referred to as creams, but they are not always sold in cream form. They can also come as gel or oil. In any case, warming creams for cycling play a key role: preparing the muscles to work at their best. It should be clear that they do not replace the inevitable warm-up, but by acting on the skin of the legs they help oxygenate it and relax it, naturally contributing to an increase in temperature. A classic warming cream, such as the well-known Kwakzalver Vurig Warm, should be applied with a light massage to the thighs a few minutes before starting physical activity, so as to activate them and benefit from its effects during the ride. Also not to be overlooked is the cold-shielding effect of these creams, which, especially in winter, are very useful against icy gusts of wind. There are also specific products that help shield against UV rays, such as Cutered Sport FVS. Finally, there are products specialized in improving recovery as well as warming the muscles, such as BEND36 Pro endurance, an energizing lactic acid anti-build-up gel.

Maximum benefits with no risks (doping free)

Cycling creams, in addition to keeping the legs fresh and responsive, can also have a relaxing action. This is the case, for example, of arnica-based products to be applied after intense effort. Essential oils, plant extracts, minerals: the natural ingredients they are made of certify these creams as non-doping substances which can be used without restrictions. In fact, when discussing cycling, the topic of doping is very sensitive and therefore it is important to make this necessary clarification. Especially after the UCI’s 2018 ban on the use of speed gel, special creams for legs and arms capable of reducing air resistance and increasing the rider’s aerodynamics in competition.
