29" MTB Tires

MTB 29 tires, launch the wheel over the obstacle

29-inch tires are the standard in MTB. Outclassing 26-inch wheels when it comes to clearing obstacles, they also excel at building speed, both uphill and downhill. And although 27.5 tires are becoming more widespread, in XC they remain the benchmark. If you need to replace your tires, there are a few aspects to consider. To start with, are tubeless setups better, or models with an inner tube? Well, it depends a lot on your riding style. The former excel on pronounced rough terrain because they allow lower pressures than the others which, on the other hand, are unbeatable on asphalt. In addition to diameter, MTB tire width also makes a difference. As does the type of compound and tread pattern: all elements that affect grip and rolling efficiency. Schwalbe, Specialized, Pirelli and Maxxis produce models for every taste and budget. The choice is yours.

A tire for every condition

If you are a relaxed rider and do not want to change tires every time you ride, you can comfortably keep the stock tires on your MTB. But if you want the perfect response on every surface, you will need to adapt to the trail and gradients, swapping tires as conditions change. A dry, compact surface calls for tires with a hard compound and a tread pattern that is not too aggressive. Mud, on the other hand, requires tall, aggressive knobs together with a soft compound. Climbing and descending: when one of the two takes center stage, tire width also becomes essential. The fastest-rolling MTB tires are the narrower ones, which perform best when you are pushing to climb. In enduro and downhill, however, wider tires are better to provide more grip and control. In general, a high-pressure tire is faster but also more prone to punctures. That is why it is always a good idea to carry an emergency repair kit.

Tires for e-bikes

In the stunning setting of Val di Sole, the 2021 MTB World Championships took place. Alongside the classic disciplines, a special competition is reserved for electric bikes. Won by the French rider Jérôme Gilloux, the eMTB race is different from all the others. The bike’s weight and power place considerable stress on the tires. So even if you are not racing to win, you should consider reinforced tires for your electric MTB, designed to withstand higher pressures.
