Flat MTB pedals

Flat pedals for MTB

The flat pedal is a pedal designed to provide a wide platform for the foot. The simplest models are flat and fitted with reflectors, and are installed on leisure bikes and city bikes. When it comes to MTB, the flat pedal takes on a specific role. In fact, flat pedals are the ideal tool for pushing the bike to the limit and achieving top performance. The main difference compared with clipless pedals is that with flat pedals the shoe is not locked onto the pedal, so the rider is guaranteed freedom of movement to perform the maneuvers required by the terrain. Thanks to a large contact surface, they excel on fast descents, giving the rider control and stability.
For this reason, flat pedals are a benchmark in Gravity, for both enduro and downhill enthusiasts and riders who enjoy performing tricks in the half-pipe.

Flat Pedal Materials

Flat pedals are made from all types of materials. The more affordable models are made of plastic, but more stable and durable materials can also be used, such as nylon composite, aluminum, carbon, or graphite. The key characteristic of quality flat pedals is the combination of strength, versatility, and lightweight construction. To ensure maximum grip with the shoe, there are pins, small studs distributed around the perimeter of the pedal. Pin counts can vary from 7 to 10. For maximum hold and traction, there are specialized shoes for flat pedals, featuring a wide, generally flat rubber sole capable of delivering maximum grip on the pins thanks to the soft and flexible sole made from high-density rubber.

Design and Style

Flat pedals are defined by a precise aesthetic language also embraced in Gravity disciplines. Oversized sizes and bold colors create a stylistic universe rooted in streetwear imagery. The ultra-colorful Krypto by Supacaz, for example, features a livery inspired by the Years ’70s that does not go unnoticed. Built from polished aluminum, they are a celebration of reflections and color. But there are also solid-color versions with strong visual impact, such as the Fireeye Skittlez or the Campa Bros Assault. Red, yellow, light blue, fluorescent green: they bring a breath of fresh air to the saddle.
